NBC and Eyewitness News partnered together to produce a 60 minute special that will show the importance of finding shelter animals forever homes. Adoptive families will be featured as well as the unsung heroes working at animal shelters to find animals new homes. The Northeast Pennsylvania shelters are also featured on the show, which will highlight their efforts in finding homes for homeless and stray dogs.
Clear the Shelters Day: Animal shelters waive adoption fees
On August 15th, many animal shelters will waive adoption fees to attract new pet owners. Sponsored by NBCUniversal Television Stations, the event aims to find homes for thousands homeless animals. Since its inception, Clear the Shelters Day has led to the adoption of more than 6,800 animals. Shelters sometimes waive adoption fees for animals who have been waiting for some time.
During Clear the Shelters Day, animal shelters waive adoption fees for dogs and cats. These discounts apply only to cats and dogs. Pets must be accompanied with all household members. Pets can be held up to one business day. Fees will not be charged the next day. For dogs and cats who meet all the requirements for adoption, adoption fees are waived.

Philadelphia SPCA's adoption day
The Philadelphia SPCA will be hosting an adoption event on Saturday for anyone looking to adopt a pet. This event will feature over a thousand dogs and cats, each spayed/neutered, microchipped, and fully-vetted. There will be many participating shelters at the event, including BVSPCA West Chester and New Castle shelters as well as Morris Animal Refuge and Camden County Animal Shelter. Although the event is completely free, there is a $20 adoption fee.
